Location
The Ferry Inn is situated on King Street in the historic village of Cawood,
some 10 miles south of York and one time home to Cardinal Wolsey (Humpty
Dumpty). Once
you arrive in Cawood, you can find us just next to the swing bridge over
the River Ouse.
We have a large beer garden on the river bank - an ideal spot to relax
with a drink and watch the tide rise and fall, play with the kids, or
have a bite to eat. If you're lucky you might even see the seal that
has taken up semi-permanent residence at the bridge.
Directions
- From York, take the A19 towards Selby, then just after passing through
Escrick turn right. Continue through Stillingfleet then join the B1222
to Cawood. After crossing the swing bridge at Cawood take the first right
into King Street. Alternatively you can reach Cawood by bus - the number
42 service operated by Arriva leaves from Piccadilly, opposite the Merchant
Adventurer's Hall, and takes about 30 minutes to reach Cawood dropping
you off just opposite Cawood Castle (see
map). Timetables are available from the Arriva
web site.
- From Leeds take the A63 towards Selby and Sherburn in Elmet. On reaching
the old A1 bear south and almost immediately turn left onto the B1222
towards Sherburn in Elmet. At the traffic lights in Sherburn in Elmet
continue straight ahead, and follow the B1222 to Cawood. Cross over
the traffic lights in Cawood and then take the next left into King
Street.
- From Tadcaster take the A162 (signposted Towton) out of town, then
turn left onto the B1223 (signposted Selby). Continue through Ulleskelf
and Ryther to Cawood. At the traffic lights in Cawood turn left, then
left again into King Street.
- From Selby take the B1223 through Wistow and on to Cawood. At the
traffic lights in Cawood turn right, then the next left into King Street.
Alternatively you can reach Cawood by bus - the number 42 service operated
by Arriva leaves from Selby bus depot and takes about 15 minutes to
reach Cawood. Timetables are available from the Arriva
web site.
